I suppose there will always be some people who assume everything I write is about them. I confess that every time I get a message from someone carrying on about how what I wrote was about them and therefore inappropriate, I just want to scream, “Everything is NOT about you, but if you see yourself in something I wrote then at least you know where you need to do some work!” Then I found the cartoon at the right during a Google search and realized I am not alone.
The truth is that much if not most of what I write about is something, for better or for worse, that I have seen in my life. The rest of the truth is that if it’s something I have seen only once then I am not likely to write about it because I don’t have much reason to believe that many people would find it very interesting. It’s only when I start to see trends that I am likely to write about something, which means that if you see it and believe it’s all about you – well, I hate to break it to you, but you’re just not that important. But hey, if it makes you feel better, then I encourage you to keep right on pumping yourself up. No point in trying to get that ego in check just prior to disengaging from reality completely!
