Letting Go

I see a lot of posts on social media that seem to reflect a belief that the purpose of religion is to change the way things in life turn out. People seem to believe that if they say the right prayers they will avoid bad outcomes and guarantee good outcomes. That’s not faith, it’s magical thinking and it is bound to disappoint.

Real faith and healthy religion help us cope with outcomes, not change them. Sometimes reality is disappointing, and no amount of name it and claim it nonsense will change that. Through healthy spirituality,  we can learn to cope with reality. That’s much better than games of let’s pretend disguised as faith.
