Ultimately, we cannot think our way to wholeness. Neither can we feel our way to wholeness. Both are required, but what we need to work on in the west is most likely feeling. Despite the proliferation of religions that suggest we can think our way to wholeness, prosperity, the perfect mate, and a host of other nonsense, it’s simply not true. We cannot imagine, visualize, desire, hope, or believe our way to anything but self-deception. We can, however, feel our way there. We can use our thoughts to come to understand a lot of truths, but until we find something – and it doesn’t have to be what is usually understood to be formal meditation – to stop all of that thinking and just be still, we will never become whole.
