After returning from a weekend trip with the grandkids, Erin and I are very familiar with the question, “are we there yet?” It occurs to me that as adults we approach the spiritual path asking the same question. Just as with kids on a trip, asking that question on the spiritual path only makes the journey seem longer. The reason is that, unlike a car trip, on the spiritual journey the path is the destination. The paradox is that it’s only when we forget about some destination other than the path that we actually progress on the path. Go figure. Are we there yet?
