Quite often in times of stress we find ourselves quite busy doing things which have no purpose other than to distract
us from what we are feeling. We might repeatedly straighten up the same desk or counter space, check the same email over and over, or rearrange items on a shelf every few minutes. It’s okay to do that if whatever we are facing is just too much to handle at the present time, but sooner or later we will have to turn toward, rather than away from, our feelings. We can prepare ourselves for these times by growing accustomed to embracing our feelings now, before the high stress events hit. It isn’t always easy, but as with any other skill practice makes it easier. Why not start today?
