Have you every wondered who you really are? Here is an experiment. First, throw out every explanation that has to do with anything you do. That means your job, your hobbies, the places you volunteer, the chores you do, all of it. Now toss out all of the roles. Forget about husband, wife, spouse, parent, child, brother, sister, employee, aunt, uncle, cousin, third cousin twice removed (what is that, anyway?), foster-parent, retiree, and any job titles that might spring to mind. I realize this is pretty difficult, because now I want you to tell me who you are. At this point you probably feel like someone who has been caught running to their garage naked and asked what they are wearing because we have stripped away most of the facades the real you hides behind. Still, you probably don’t have an answer ready to the question, “who are you?” You’ll have to sit with this one for a while, but if you keep at it you may well be surprised by what you learn!
