Perhaps one day we will learn, but I suspect not anytime soon. We attacked Iraq for no good reason and created a power vacuum in which ISIL rose to power. Now we are going to attack again, making more enemies in the world, losing more American soldiers as well as Iraqi citizens and soldiers, and creating another power vacuum which will doubtless allow another extremist group to rise to power. War solves nothing, and only creates more problems. Let us not forget, however, the war criminals who got us into this mess in the first place. America might regain some integrity in the world if we didn’t shield President Bush and Vice-President Cheney from the consequences of their actions, but I don’t really expect that to happen either. It’s another sad day in American history.
