One of the teachings of every major religion is that you have what you need for the spiritual journey inside of you already. If you have gone to church all your life and never heard that one, it’s not a surprise – it’s bad for business. People hear it and head for the hills. That being said, we also need spiritual community in which to practice if we are going to get the most from our journey. It’s also true that it takes money to sustain spiritual community, and I would encourage you to be generous. However, you should also know that if a particular community isn’t meeting most of your needs, it may be time to take a look around. If somebody tells you that you can’t, then you know it’s time to look around.
