Passion

follow_your_passionHoward Thurman famously said that we should find what makes us come alive and do it, because the world needs people who have come alive. (I am paraphrasing him loosely) The problem is that our educational system is becoming more and more specialized even long before college entrance, with a heavy bias toward math and science. When funding is cut, the Arts go first – even before physical education. The result may be that we have some amazing physical specimens who are dead inside because they never had the opportunity to discover what makes them come alive, and scientists who have come alive but cannot avail themselves of beauty because we don’t find it efficient to teach people to create it. That makes for a soul-less society.
