Daily Teaching for Monday, January 6th

Today is the Feast of the Epiphany, or Three Kings Day, in the Christian Calendar. Today we commemorate the three kings, or Magi (astrologers), or Wise Men (I like to call them the three wise guys, Vinnie, Vito, and Fausto, who came to deliver Joseph’s gambling winnings – but people get upset, so I won’t mention it here) who came to visit the baby Jesus and deliver gold, frankincense, and myrrh to honor him. There are almost more historical problems with the story than you can count, but what is important is the meaning – that religious membership would no longer be confined to one ethnic group. It seems it’s a lesson we haven’t quite caught onto yet, regardless of our religious tradition!
