The first noble truth of Buddhism, that life is unsatisfactory, is a very important teaching regardless of your religious or spiritual background. When we encounter adversity we often find ourselves asking, “why did this happen me?” The truth is that if nothing unsatisfactory ever happened to us that would be unusual. We are all of the nature to age, to get sick, and to die. Being realistic about these truths actually allows us to enjoy life because we are less likely to be derailed when things don’t go our way.
