Daily Teaching for Monday, March 18th

Every so often I run into a religious person who believes they have an answer to every question. They often don’t allow too many questions, and seem to feel that a life with uncertainty indicates they don’t have faith. The truth is that the opposite of faith isn’t doubt but rather certainty. We can choose to believe that we have everything under control and know all the answers, but the price of that choice is living in a very small world. I choose to live in the real world filled with mystery and uncertainty and engage it openly and honestly. I find it much less stressful than trying to keep the fictional house of cards that is certainty standing.
