If we are completely honest, most of the ethical and moral rules developed by Churches have one of two sources. For the first fifteen hundred years, their source was (allegedly) celibate males. For the last five hundred years, their sources have been (allegedly) celibate males and (allegedly) faithfully married male preachers. The result is that over the last one hundred fifty years or so the tendency has been to emphasize the “evils” of abortion and homosexuality. There is no small irony in the truth that those “evils” were identified and preached very often my either closeted gay males or unfaithful married males – or both. It’s time to develop a new moral code developed by representative voices from every corner of society.
