A spiritual teacher or member of the clergy should have as their primary focus their practice of the spiritual path and teaching it in such a way to make the path accessible to their students or parishioners. Spiritual teachers or clergy whose primary focus is wealth, power, or presenting a particular image are impostors who should be avoided at all costs. As Max Lucado has said, shepherds who are more concerned with the fleece than the flock are always problematic.
