Every now and again, I hear of an adult who has some conflict with a friend or a service provider say, “I just don’t feel comfortable going there any more.” Really? Are we that spineless? Luckily, I have a solution. If you ever feel spineless and wimpy, unable to interact with other adults because some circumstance has made you “uncomfortable**” I have a solution for you. It’s Craig’s fail-proof mantra. Simply repeat after me, including using the improper grammar, because that is what makes this mantra powerful:
I am all growed up. I goes where I wants to go, and does what I wants to do.
Repeat as often as necessary until you feel your spine start to stiffen. You can also use the mantra in response to anyone who asks you, “Why did you do that?” Simply pause and say:
I am all growed up. I goes where I wants to go, and does what I wants to do.
Before long, you’ll be acting like a real person again!
**Disclaimer: Of course, if you are in physical danger and that is why you feel uncomfortable, it may be best to stay away.
